Although life has come to a halt in many ways during the coronavirus pandemic, accidents and emergencies can and do happen. As always, it remains vitally important that anyone experiencing a dental emergency act swiftly to get the appropriate treatment.

Florida emergency dentist Dr. Natalia Benda-Celenski and her team at Pearl White Dentistry have been helping people throughout South Florida address a wide range of emergencies for more than a decade. Our offices are currently open for emergencies and some other services for new and existing patients.

At Pearl White, we also help people restore and improve their smiles after emergency situations. We take the time to understand each individual patient’s needs and to craft treatment options designed to meet their unique situations.

Dental Emergencies During the Pandemic

It is important to understand during a dental emergency that time is of the essence. Remaining calm and taking basic steps to address the emergency may be the difference in saving your teeth.

Some of the most common emergencies we see at Pearl White Dentistry include:

  • Broken or dislodged teeth
  • Cracked or broken crowns, fillings, bridges, and other dental work
  • Severe toothaches
  • Abscessed teeth
  •  Objects lodged between teeth

The proper response depends on the nature of the emergency. You should go directly to an emergency room if you are not able to slow the flow of any blood coming from your mouth within 10 minutes of applying constant pressure. You should also head immediately to the ER if you believe that you have a broken jaw.

In other situations that do not require an ER visit, it is important to contact an emergency dentist as soon as possible. You should also take over-the-counter medication to address pain and use ice to keep swelling down.

Restorative Services After an Emergency

After an emergency, we offer a number of treatment services to correct broken, cracked and stained teeth as well as a wide range of other dental conditions. Some of those restorative treatments include:

  • Crowns and bridges: These treatments are designed to rebuild teeth and fill gaps.
  • Root canals: This procedure helps save injured or decaying teeth by eliminating infections.
  • Porcelain veneers: This treatment uses thin sheets of porcelain to address gaps, cracks and stains.
  • Teeth whitening: Our at-home treatment package helps stained or faded teeth regain their shine.

At Pearl White, Dr. Natalia and her staff have a strong track record of successful results and brightened smiles.

Your Florida Emergency Dentist During Covid-19

As Florida gradually starts to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic and people leave their homes more frequently, there comes the risk of a wide range of accidents that are simply a part of everyday life. That includes dental emergencies, which require the treatment of an experienced emergency dentist.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in May lifted the state’s stay-at-home order and allowed dentists and medical professionals to administer a number of elective procedures. That also means that dentists can continue to perform emergency procedures.

Florida emergency dentist Dr. Natalia Benda-Celenski has been assisting patients in emergency and other situations for more than 15 years. She has a wide range of experience helping people in emergency situations, working to address the situation by saving teeth and restoring smiles.

Dr. Natalia and her team at Pearl White Dentistry understand that time is of the essence in an emergency situation. She also takes the time after an emergency is resolved to work directly with patients to understand their specific personal dental needs and develop a restoration plan tailored to their goals. Dr. Natalia has been cited for “Excellence in Clinical Achievement” because of her professional achievement and personalized approach.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Dental emergencies come in all shapes and sizes and can happen in a number of different ways, from a slip and fall or a car accident to a mishap on a sports field. Common emergencies include:

  • Jaw injuries
  • Lost dental restorations
  • Objects stuck between your teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Dislodged teeth
  • Severe toothaches
  • Soft tissue injuries

What these situations have in common is that it is important to remain calm and act quickly. Taking the appropriate steps and saving a few minutes here or there can have a big impact, including by potentially saving some teeth.

In situations in which a person is bleeding, it is vital to try to immediately stop or slow the blood by applying continuous pressure. If the blood does not slow within 10 minutes, the injured person should go directly to an emergency room. Anyone who thinks they have a broken jaw should also go straight to the ER.

For other dental emergencies, the injured person should take over-the-counter medication for pain, use ice to reduce any swelling and contact an emergency dentist.
